Taylor Swift interpolates George Michael’s “Father Figure” on her new album

Author

Technically, what Taylor Swift has done is an “interpolation” of “Father Figure,” George Michael’s 1996 classic.

In pop music, interpolation refers to using a melody—or portions of it (often with modified lyrics)—from a previously recorded song, but re-recording the melody rather than “sampling” or “remixing” it.

Taylor Swift’s new album is titled “The Life of a Showgirl” and is out this Friday, October 3rd.
