Aterciopelados releases Genes Rebeldes, their tenth studio album

Author

“This album is a sonic map that connects with our roots and points toward a future full of possibilities. It is a declaration of loving rebellion and conscious creativity.” Andrea and Héctor

‘Genes Rebeldes’ is Aterciopelados’ new album, a manifesto of identity, resistance, and hope that fuses cultural roots, personal reflections, and futuristic visions into thirteen unusual and indomitable songs. Celebrating rebellion as a creative and transformative act, the album challenges established systems and connects the ancestral with the contemporary and the cosmic. Musically, it moves between rock, blues, Latin rhythms, and electronic fusions, while visually unfolding a hybrid kaleidoscope that evokes our roots and points to a future full of possibilities. More than an album, “Genes Rebeldes” is a sonic map, a declaration of principles, a reminder that creativity and love are forces that drive us forward.

The album’s single, “Genes Rebeldes,” is a cosmic bolero that speaks of love from the origins of the universe: two genes in love who know they’re made of stardust and persist in looking to the future with hope, with the mad desire to prolong the species. Congas, maracas, vintage rock, and interplanetary stellar sounds blend into a romantic and bold song that encapsulates the spirit of the album.

The other songs yet to be revealed are “Eterno,” written by Andrea and produced by Leonardo Castiblanco; a tribute to Gustavo Cerati with star guests Zeta Bosio, Richard Coleman, and Hilda Lizarazu. A fusion of house and rock with an electronic beat and fuzz-filled guitars, it becomes a declaration of eternal love for the rocker who gave us his songbook.

“Mi Nicho,” also by Andrea and produced by Juan Pablo Villamizar, is a minimalist, spiritual, sixties ode to one’s own nest, a self-defense with critical humor, guitar, piano, drums, and vocals: what more could you ask for?

“Rompan Todo,” composed by Héctor, originates from the series of the same name, which evoked the rebellious spirit of Spanish rock and roll. It now becomes a cyberpunk cumbia that sharply critiques corruption in institutions and governments within current geopolitics.

The release will be accompanied by the music video for “Genes Rebeldes,” directed by young filmmaker Nicolás Caballero, who uses digital intervention techniques to narrate the journey of the soul before birth. A visual work that complements the poetic and spiritual depth of the song.

The album will be available on all digital platforms starting April 22.
