Hits tend to be short. The average time for songs that reached the Hot 100’s Top 10 in 2024 was three minutes and 40 seconds, but no hit has been as brief as “Steve’s Lava Chicken,” by 55-year-old actor, comedian, and musician Jack Black, which entered the chart this week.
The song, at just 34 seconds, breaks the record for the shortest Hot 100 hit in history.
“Steve’s Lava Chicken” is featured on the soundtrack to the movie “Minecraft,” and when the Hot 100 is updated this morning, it will debut at number 77.
Jack Black co-stars in “Minecraft,” which has grossed $816 million worldwide in its first four weeks of release.
