Iconic British rock band Pink Floyd has agreed to sell its recorded music and name and image rights to Sony Music for an estimated $400 million.
The deal, one of the largest of many in recent years, was finally concluded despite decades of infighting and bitter words between band members, particularly principal songwriters Roger Waters and David Gilmour. Also involved in the deal are drummer Nick Mason, the estate of keyboardist Richard Wright and founding singer-songwriter Roger “Syd” Barrett.
The deal includes the recording rights to the music, but not the songwriting rights, which will remain with the individual authors.
Its iconic album covers, which were largely designed by British firm Hipgnosis, are included in the deal.
