Lady Gaga was the big winner at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Sunday. Shakira won in the Latin category.
Lady Gaga won four awards, bringing her total to 22, placing her third in the all-time standings, behind Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, who each have 30 trophies. Lady Gaga’s new awards allow her to surpass Madonna, once the MTV leader, with 20 awards.

Women completely dominated the night. Of the 30 awards handed out this year, female solo artists or girl groups won 22.
Male solo artists and one boy group (Coldplay) won six awards.
The other two awards went to mixed collaborations (Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars and K-pop singer ROSÉ & Bruno Mars).
