Carl Cox was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2026 King Charles III Birthday Honours List, in recognition of his contributions to music and electronic culture.
The OBE is one of the UK’s highest civilian honors and is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in areas such as the arts, science, charity, or public service.

Upon learning of the honor, Cox said:
“To receive this honor for doing something that has brought me so much joy is truly humbling.”
With a career spanning more than four decades, Carl Cox is considered one of the most influential figures in dance and techno music worldwide, as well as a major promoter of club culture.

It’s worth noting that an OBE does not automatically make someone a “Sir.” The title of “Sir” is conferred by a knighthood (Knight Bachelor or KBE), a higher rank.
