Aterciopelados presents “La Teta Pirata”

Author

Following the impact of Genes Rebeldes, Aterciopelados announces the release of “La Teta Pirata,” their new independent single that will be available on all digital platforms starting March 6, 2026.

“At the end of 2024 I was diagnosed with early breast cancer, aggressive but timely. On January 10, 2025 I underwent a bilateral mastectomy. Fifteen days later, tissue analysis of the nipples led to a resection of the right nipple. It was intense, it still is. Having cancer grants a kind of power: everyone did what I said. I am well, I go to regular checkups, but there is a malignancy that grew inside me, that lurks. After your children grew in your body and fed from your breasts, this triple negative grew and spread. Around those days I wrote this song “La Teta Pirata” and I want you to listen to it. She is dark but luminous. It begins with a phrase my father used to say: every dirt eater carries their own clod… no gatherings, mournful procession inside… poetic and nostalgic license, because in reality my family and my friends were a silent multitude who helped throughout the whole process. A beautiful song that comes from an agonizing moment.

and long live life
while it is still held
may health endure
and long live celebration and joy
may music and love always
keep you company.” (Andrea, 2026)

La Teta Pirata fuses ranchera and milonga, evokes the cadence of the Latin American waltz and the introspection of the Colombian bambuco, and builds bridges toward the Mexican huapango and the Argentine chacarera. An atmosphere of darkness and resistance expands into a luminous rock: a lament that confronts adversity. Electric and acoustic guitars, synth bass, and expressive textures sustain Andrea’s deep, powerful and intentionally mournful voice.

The song grows and opens the spectrum toward an expansive and luminous rock. The voice ascends into a playful register that releases tension and gives way to a memorable chorus. The result is a beautiful and unique harmonic contrast.

Conceptually the song is born from an agonizing moment and symbolizes the passage from tribulation to beauty. It deepens the explorations of the award-winning albums Claroscura and Genes Rebeldes and recalls songs such as “Vieja” and “Ruana versus bikini” in questioning the overvaluation of youth as a cultural ideal. “La Teta Pirata” is a metaphor of resilience and a call to care for life and unity.

Production, guitars, synth bass and keyboards were handled by Juan Pablo Villamizar. The mix was done by Leonardo Castiblanco. Authorship and vocal production are by Andrea Echeverri.

The video clip was directed and produced by Milagros Jaramillo, Andrea’s daughter, together with Luan Arango. The audiovisual piece accompanies the song’s transitions between light and darkness with an intimate treatment that dialogues with the emotional narrative of the single.

As the video’s scenography there are ceramic breasts from which crystals and pearls flow, jewels that gave milk and life, and textiles of women crying, all made by Andrea. Andrea’s wardrobe was created by the award-winning designer Dayra Benavides: a vest of many velvet breasts in different colors with crochet nipples.

Available on all digital platforms, this release reaffirms Aterciopelados’ ability to build bridges between tradition and contemporaneity, between introspection and energy, between critique and hope. A song that recognizes in sadness a threshold toward hope.
