Sofia Kourtesis has announced a new DJ Kicks mix, which is slated to arrive on Friday 27th March. You can listen to an exclusive track, ‘Los Poemas No Siempre Riman’, below.
The Peruvian producer and DJ’s contribution will be the first in the highly regarded !K7 compilation series to land this year. Music from Jon Hopkins, Aphex Twin, Axel Boman, Sedef Adesi, Chloé Caillet and Luke Alessi, Octo Octa, Logic 1000, Ahadadream and Avalon Emerson features.
Kourtesis has made four tracks specifically for the release, with ‘Los Poemas No Siempre Riman’ recorded alongside Afro-Peruvian group Novalima. The other three – ‘It’s You’, ‘Texas Changing’, and ‘A Brief Look In Your Eyes’ – are solo productions.
“DJ-Kicks is a series that shaped how I think about DJing and listening. I played the DJ Koze mix an unhealthy number of times, to the point where it basically lives in my DNA now,” said Kourtesis. “Those mixes taught me that the best ones aren’t about showing off; they’re about taking people on a journey. They move, twist and surprise you. They give you goosebumps when you least expect it.”
“This mix was about bringing together all the different sounds and emotions I carry with me,” she continued. “The highs, the lows, the warmth, the weird little left turns. That’s basically how my brain works when I’m behind the decks. This is my way of letting those worlds collide, overlap and dance with each other,” she says. “That’s exactly what I wanted to do here. I wanted emotion, tension, release. I wanted this mix to feel alive.”
