Grammy Awards Special: Aterciopelados

Author

Aterciopelados arrives at Grammy week with Genes Rebeldes, an album that reaffirms their identity and puts them back at the heart of Latin rock.

The band will be present at the 2026 GRAMMY AWARDS. With their elegant extravagance, the Colombian icons of mestizo rock arrive in Los Angeles to present their latest studio album, Genes Rebeldes, nominated in the Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album category.

This participation marks a deeply symbolic moment in the band’s history. Aterciopelados’ presence at the Grammys evokes their memorable nomination for La Pipa de la Paz in the Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album category in 1998, a historic event that made the band the first Colombian artist nominated for these awards. Three decades later, in 2026, Aterciopelados is preparing for a grand celebration of La Pipa de la Paz, announcing the return to the stage of this fundamental album through a tour and special presentations in Latin America and Europe, drawing a natural bridge between that foundational milestone and a vibrant, free and current creative present.

Genes Rebeldes reaffirms the artistic identity of the duo formed by Andrea Echeverri and Héctor Buitrago: a sonic manifesto where rebellion is understood as a conscious, creative, and transformative act. The nomination comes after the Genes Rebeldes Tour in the United States, a tour that culminates in March and visits cities such as Boston (March 6), Philadelphia (March 7), Washington D.C. (March 8), and Carrboro (March 10), in emblematic venues that offer an energetic, powerful, intimate, and authentic experience.

More than a nomination, Aterciopelados’ presence at the 2026 Grammys celebrates a career committed to female empowerment, environmental advocacy, and love as a unifying force, reiterating their ongoing call for a world at peace.
