New Year’s Eve, or Saint Sylvester’s Day, is the feast day of Pope Sylvester I, who reigned from 314 to 335.

In Western churches, the feast is celebrated on December 31st, the anniversary of the death of Saint Sylvester, a date that, since the adoption of the Gregorian calendar, coincides with New Year’s Eve.

Saint Sylvester’s Day celebrations are characterized by attendance at the Vigil Mass, usually held around midnight, as well as fireworks, festivities, and feasts.

This year, the Saint Sylvester’s Party and Dinner that has attracted the most online attention will be held in Cartagena, Colombia, one of the most spectacular cities on the continent.

Cartagena de Indias is located on the shores of the Caribbean Sea and was founded in 1533 by Pedro de Heredia. Its historic center, called the “Ciudad Amurallada,” was declared a National Heritage Site of Colombia in 1959 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. Cartagena has developed its urban area while preserving its historic center, becoming one of the most important and celebrated tourist destinations in Colombia, the Caribbean, and the entire hemisphere.
