The planned price hike is part of the company’s attempts to demonstrate sustained profitability
Spotify is expected to increase its US subscription prices in 2026.
The hike will seemingly come into effect during first quarter of the new year, with The Financial Times reporting that the move was being made in order to demonstrate sustained profitability within the company.

It’s not yet known exactly how much the price will rise in the US, but it will follow similar recent increases in the UK, Australia and Switzerland. A US Spotify Premium subscription currently costs $11.99 per month. The last price increase in the territory came in July 2024.
The company signalled further price increases when it rolled out its new direct messaging feature in August of this year.
The price increase will follow Spotify’s recent addition of lossless audio to its service in some territories and its acquisition of the sample-aggregating music database WhoSampled.

Meanwhile, Spotify continues to court controversy, with a number of artists and labels removing their work from the streaming platform. Xiu Xiu, Kalahari Oyster Cult and Deerhoof are amongst those to have exited the platform in response to CEO and co-founder Daniel Ek’s connections to AI military defence company Helsing, including June’s €600 million investment in the firm, and a previous €100 million stake acquired in 2021.
