UNVRS: The world’s largest nightclub opened in Ibiza last week

UNVRS, pronounced “Universe,” described as the world’s first hyperclub, has opened in Ibiza to great acclaim. The new club promises to usher in a new era of futuristic clubbing.

Everything is handcrafted with such attention to detail that it’s supposed to have acoustics as perfect as those of an opera house, with porous walls and a slanted bar to avoid the cavernous echo you hear in so many huge clubs.

The club is so large that you can easily get lost in the underground network of corridors and dance halls; luckily, there’s free Wi-Fi in case you lose your friends in the maze.

There has been a nightclub on the site, 20 minutes inland from Ibiza’s Old Town, since 1979, when it opened under the name Ku.

In 1995, it was rebranded as Privilege and became the world’s largest club, hosting groups of up to 10,000 people.

Now, following viral marketing campaigns that included a UFO sighting and an appearance by Hollywood star Will Smith, as well as a multi-million-dollar renovation, it has been rebranded as the “world’s first hyperclub.”

And what exactly does that mean? Apparently, it’s the combination of high-end luxury and attention to detail in a stadium-sized event.

British DJ Carl Cox has signed a 14-week residency at UNVRS, his first on the island since Space closed in 2016.
