The new inductees were announced by Ryan Seacrest on ABC’s American Idol last Sunday night.
THE NEW MEMBERS
The list includes Chubby Checker, whose classic “The Twist” was a worldwide hit in 1960, the band Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Outkast, Cyndi Lauper, The White Stripes, and Soundgarden. These seven artists were included in the performers category.
Six other names are the girl group Salt-N-Pepa and the late singer-songwriter Warren Zevon, who will receive the award for musical influence; the late producer and one of the creators of the “Sound of Philadelphia,” Thom Bell; English pianist and studio organist Nicky Hopkins; and bassist Carole Kaye will be honored with the award for musical excellence. Finally, record executive Lenny Waronker was included, who will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
