The musical is inspired by a true story that chronicles the journey of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay, a group of young artists who transform waste materials into instruments.

This is a “touching reminder that even in the most unexpected places, something beautiful can be built,” says the press release for “Basura.”

The Recycled Orchestra is an orchestra composed of young people from Asunción, Paraguay, who play musical instruments made from waste materials collected from the Cateura landfill in Asunción. Formed in 2012, the orchestra has performed internationally with Stevie Wonder and heavy metal bands Metallica and Megadeth.
