“We know this won’t make some of you happy, but we believe music should be performed without regard to politics. Our song “Y.M.C.A” is a global anthem that will hopefully help unite the country after a tumultuous and divided campaign in which our preferred candidate lost. Therefore, we believe now is the time to unite the country with music, which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at several events as part of Donald J. Trump’s 2025 inauguration.”
The group will perform at Trump’s “victory rally” at the Capital One Arena in Washington and at the Liberty Inaugural Ball.
“Macho Man” and “Y.M.C.A.” were popular songs at Trump’s campaign events during his 2020 and 2024 rallies.
In December, Victor Willis of Village People pressed the issue on why he decided to let the president-elect use his song “Y.M.C.A.” at rallies and events, it was because she “didn’t have the heart” to block its use, despite originally asking Trump to stop doing so in 2020, but realizing he seemed to “really like it” and “was having a lot of fun” with “Y.M.C.A,” she allowed it.
