TIKTOK BANNED IN CANADA

Author

TikTok is now banned from operating in Canada.

Following a security review, the federal government has ordered the company to close its operations in the country, including its offices in Toronto and Vancouver.

“The government is taking steps to address specific national security risks related to ByteDance Ltd’s operations in Canada through the establishment of TikTok Technology Canada Inc.,” Innovation Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said in a statement.
“The decision was based on information and evidence gathered during the course of the review and on advice from Canada’s security and intelligence community and other government partners.”

Last year, Canada began reviewing TikTok’s plan to invest and expand its business in the country.
Under Canadian law, the government can assess potential national security risks from foreign investments, such as TikTok’s proposal. The law prevents the government from disclosing the details of such investments.

ByteDance is TikTok’s Chinese parent company.

Canada is one of the 10 most powerful markets in the music industry in the world.
