Mariah Carey has suffered a huge loss, as both her mother and sister died on the same day.
In an unimaginable tragedy, Billboard has confirmed that Mariah’s mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, have died within hours of each other. In a statement shared with Billboard, Carey wrote: “I am heartbroken to have lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away.”
Her mother, also a singer, accompanied her on her Christmas album in 2010.
In her 2020 memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” Mariah Carey opened up about her “complicated” relationship with her mother, writing that “like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been filled with contradictions and competing realities.”
Details of Patricia and Alison’s causes of death have not been confirmed.

Patricia Carey was a Juilliard-trained opera singer and voice teacher. She was married to Mariah Carey’s father, Alfred Roy, from whom she separated when Mariah Carey was three years old. Roy died in 2002.
