This week Donwbeat digital recommends the new album “Musica de las Americas” by Grammy Award winner; Puerto Rican alto saxophonist, composer, band leader, music producer and educator Miguel Zenon (48) who won a Grammy Award.
Zenon received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a MacArthur Fellowship and a Doris Duke Artist Award.
He also holds an Honorary Doctorate in Arts from the University of the Sacred Heart, one of the largest and oldest educational institutions in Puerto Rico whose origins date back to 1880.
Zenon has released many albums as a band leader and appeared on more than 100 recordings as a session musician.

The Taínos are the indigenous inhabitants of the Lucayan Islands of the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, the Greater Antilles of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, and the northern Lesser Antilles, including the Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Saint Martin, Antigua and Barbuda. They are an Arawak people who came from South America, specifically from the mouth of the Orinoco River, Venezuela.
