Do not believe in those myths that it is “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby (certified sales of 4 million, not the 25 million copies attributed to it), or that it is “Candle in the Wind”, Elton John’s tribute to the Princess Diana (11 million) or “We Are the World” (3 million copies).
The R.I.A.A (RECORDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA) has recently certified “Don’t Stop Believin’” by the band Journey, 18 times platinum, that is, 18 million copies sold between physical sales, digital sales, and other forms of consumption, to namely, streaming.
But “Dont Stop Believen” is not alone in this position.
The record is shared with “Sunflower” (theme from the movie “Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse”) by Post Malone and Swae Lee, which has also sold 18 million copies, a certification granted last year.
“Don’t Stop Believin'” was released in October 1981 and never went to number 1, only reaching number 9.
The song with the most weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 is “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X, which spent 19 weeks in first place in 2019.
The song has sold 17 million copies.
Next up, tied for 16x platinum, are Drake’s “God’s Plan,” Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive.”
