The event organized by BBC Studios Productions will also feature pop group Take That and will take place on the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 7, the day after King Charles and Queen Camilla are crowned at Westminster Abbey.
It’s no surprise that American Idol judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie would turn up at the coronation concert, as they’ve had ties to the royal family for years.
Katy is an ambassador for The British Asian Trust, while Lionel Richie was named First Global Ambassador and First Chairman of The Prince’s Trust Global Ambassadors Group in 2019.
The Prince’s Trust is a charity founded in 1976 by King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) to help vulnerable young people get their lives back on track. It supports young people between the ages of 11 and 30 who are unemployed or have school difficulties and are at risk of exclusion. Many of the youth served by the trust face problems such as homelessness, mental health issues, or trouble with the law.
The coronation concert will be broadcast on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
