Karol G joins the Calibash 2023
In a sign of the growing influence of women in the Latin urban music scene, Karol G will headline the 16th annual Calibash, taking place January 21-22 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, which will It will also have Ozuna, Myke Towers and Farruko among its great stars.
Widely known as the pioneer and most famous in a crowded Latino urban festival scene, the mega-event will also feature performances by Ivy Queen and Becky G, as well as Jhayco, Nío García, Zion & Lennox, Blessd, Sech and Feid.
In total, seven artists will perform each night at Calibash, unlike the festival’s early years, which had dozens of artists on the bill, and unlike bigger lineups as well. It’s part of an effort to more carefully curate Calibash, says Alessandra Alarcón, president of SBS Entertainment, which created and promotes the event.
Last year, Calibash sold out all three of its nights at the Crypto.com Arena, even though the shows were held amid a COVID boom.
Calibash was the first Latin music festival dedicated to urban music that not only took place consistently every year on the West Coast of the United States, but is also known for its performances — planned or not — by non-Latino artists such as French Montana and, memorably in 2016, Justin Bieber, among many other stars.
Calibash is owned and operated by SBS Entertainment’s parent company, Spanish Broadcasting System, which owns and operates some of the top Latin music radio stations in the country, including Los Angeles’ KXOL-FM La Mega 96.3, the official station of the event.
